Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB)

Project Overview

The Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) is wholly owned by the Australian Railways Association (ARA) and is responsible for development and management of the rail industry standards, rules and codes of practice, all of which have national application. The Board produces and monitors numerous documents relating to these standards, rules and codes of practice. RISSB charged Link with improving accessibility of the site including enhanced user interaction and added functionality that would allow prescribed users to access draft documents, for comment and review, prior to publication.

Our Solution

In consultation with RISSB staff, Link was able to acquire an understanding of the sensitivities surrounding the project requirements, as well as a sense of who the key external stakeholders are and what functionality and access they required for the proposed document matrix system.

In providing RISSB the technical capabilities to monitor work flow through an online document matrix Link developed an online function where, rules, standards etc are divided into project headings that represent each of the key areas for which these rules and standards are developed and maintained. The key areas identified to best connect the end user to the right document were: Rolling Stock, Infrastructure, Train Control System, Wheel Rail, Safety and Operations. From each of these, Industry Standards, Codes of Practice, Guidelines and other documents are identified as either open for ‘comment’, ‘published’ or for ‘future’ consideration. Where ‘comment’ has been activated Industry stakeholders are given the opportunity to download the spreadsheet that contains the document information; enter their comment directly into the spreadsheet; and upload and submit their comment to RISSB.
